Gift of Nature for the Holiday

Night temperatures are dipping lower — a subtle reminder that winter will soon be upon us. It’s also a perfect reminder to start collecting for holiday gift giving. As gardens in and around San Antonio have leaves falling off the trees and grass turning brown, perhaps consider a gift of something green, either for yourself or someone else.

  • Select a decorative container. You might repurpose something you already have or maybe purchase one at your favorite garden center.
  • Next, choose an upright tree. Italian cypress, Arizona cypress or native loblolly pine all do well in our area, just in case you or your recipient decide to plant it in the ground later on.
  • For a finished look, wrap the bottom with decorative burlap. You can even go a step further by adding seasonal pomegranates and pine cones and/or spent agapanthus spikes to spruce up the look.

Your finished product will be a lasting and welcome gift for your holiday festivities.
