About This Plant
Full sun; a warm-season bedding plant, with a trailing habit and prolific summer blooms in shades of pink, rose and white. (‘Cora’ is listed as a Texas Superstar, developed for resistance to Phytophthora fungus.) Plant in May to have it well established before summer heat.
‘Vinca’ here refers to the South African Catharanthus species, (which is actually endangered in its native range.) Confusingly, the same term is also for the blue-flowered Vinca minor, a much more tenacious and invasive Mediterranean vine sometimes found out of control in local landscapes.
Maintenance
Despite their excellent masses of color, vincas can be susceptible fungal problems. To prevent this, use resistant cultivars like ‘Cora’ and ‘Nirvana,’ avoid frequent over-watering, and provide well-drained soil.
