About This Plant

Light shade. Evergreen (hardy to mid 20’s F; benefits from protection below 30.) Long, leafless green stems bear slipper- or bird-shaped orange-red flowers in late summer and fall. Even in a pot, slipper plant can survive 2-3 weeks without summer irrigation; it’s much hardier in the ground. In south-central Texas it appreciates some protection from scorching sun.

Maintenance

Occasional grooming and freeze protection; supplemental water as needed in summer.
