About This Plant
Sun or partial shade. A warm-season annual bedding plant growing up to 12 inches. Intensely colored star-shaped flower clusters appear in summer and autumn, in shades of pink, violet, red, and white.
Pentas are heat-tolerant and can handle summer sun, but typically benefit from a bit of afternoon shade. They can reseed sporadically, but they’re considered an annual in San Antonio.
Pentas attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
Maintenance
Plant in May to establish by summertime. Pinch back the stalks or deadheaded to encourage flowering.
