Mangave

An interesting bi-generic succulent hybrid between agave and manfreda, with many cultivars available in shades of grey, brown and purple foliage and textures from smooth to wavy. Its fleshy leaves are free of the fierce spines of many agaves. Combining some of the best qualities of both parent species, mangave is drought tolerant but doesn’t mind humidity and can survive waterlogged soils. Best in partial shade. Evergreen down to freezing temperatures; otherwise root hardy, but avoid winter moisture. Mangave flowers in midsummer, like manfreda, with unusual (but not terribly spectacular) brownish flower stalks. The hybridization of Agave and Manfreda had been noted by horticulturists in Mexico and some growers; Mangave was a specific attempt to develop this possibility for horticultural use.
