Hardy Plumbago, Dwarf Plumbago
About This Plant
Shade or partial (morning) sun. Perennial, freezing back in winter. Foliage is dark green, turning bronze in autumn. The flowers somewhat resemble the unrelated shrub plumbago, but in a striking dark-blue shade.
It spreads by underground rhizomes and can clamber over and around rocks in much the same manner as trailing rosemary and Asiatic jasmine; but like Gregg Dalea and vinca, it doesn’t need supplemental water. Use it as a groundcover for difficult rocky situations and slopes. Keep it mulched.
It appreciates a bit of afternoon shade in the summer.
