About This Plant
Shade. Evergreen, with pairs of large wavy-edged leaves; the dots visible on the underside are spore cases. Holly fern is fairly hardy, native to rocky cliffs and slopes in East Asia. In general it prefers moist, sheltered conditions in the garden, but established plants can tolerate average soil and dry conditions as long as they are shaded.
Holly fern is often grown indoors.
Maintenance
Avoid drying out, especially in summer. Rhizomes can be divided to reproduce plants.
