About This Plant
Full sun. Mexican blue palm is a true desert palm that tolerates heat, cold and alkaline soil, as long as drainage is sufficient. Leaves are silvery-blue. Flowering stalks may reach 15′ and extend beyond the crown. Transplant shock at the time of planting can cause long-lasting damage from which this slow-growing palm may never recover; some growers recommend simply planting the pot in order to avoid it.
Shag-like skirts of dead leaves can be left to form a skirt, or they may be removed. The petioles bear sharp points, so handle leaves carefully.
