Tickseed, Largeflower Tickseed
Southeastern U.S., inland to Texas and Kansas
About This Plant
Sun/part shade. An annual wildflower with sunny yellow flowers from spring through fall; a crimson blotch appears in the center. The small dry fruits do look like tiny bugs, hence the name “tickseed.”.
Coreopsis grows easily from seed and is able to self-sow readily. Compact varieties include ‘Baby Sun’ and ‘Sunray’.
None required; sow seed in autumn for spring bloom. Deadheading can prevent it from going to seed.
