Fairy Muhly, Faury Muhly, Weeping Muhly, Arizona Muhly
Northwest Mexico and Arizona
- Part Sun/Shade
About This Plant
Sun/part shade. Billowing, feathery foliage makes for a graceful specimen and great special effects when backlit by the sun. Bamboo muhly is extremely drought tolerant for a big bunchgrass, easily outcompeting liriope and even some of the other muhlys. Use it in the mid-level in a landscape bed, or cascading along an architectural edge. Despite the name, this muhly is not related to bamboo and it’s not invasive; the name is just a reference to the stout upright grass stalks.
In some years, bamboo muhly will remain nearly evergreen, but it can be cut back as needed to restart, often in mid-spring. Occasional water in summer only in exposed locations.
