GardenStyle Recognition Program

You’ve worked hard on your landscape — planning, taking classes, visiting local nurseries, digging, sweating and getting everything just right. And along the way, you’ve also learned a lot about gardening.

You’re conserving water, providing habitat for local wildlife, going organic and increasing diversity, all while livening things up with a beautiful outdoor living area complete with whimsical or elegant yard art. You’re out there leading the way toward a sustainable future for San Antonio.

It’s with this in mind that SAWS is proud to introduce the GardenStyle Excellence recognition program to identify homeowners who are leading the way using WaterSaver landscape design principles and practices. This means incorporating low water use plants and habitats for urban wildlife, utilizing organic options to eliminate the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and reducing or eliminating mowing requirements.

Do these statements describe your landscape?

  • Less than 50 percent of my landscape is grass
  • All garden beds are mulched
  • Sun-loving plants are in the sun, shade plants in the shade
  • At least 12 different kinds of plants in my yard
  • I don’t use much water in my landscape

The GardenStyle Excellence program is open to all SAWS residential customers that meet the criteria for recognition. Once you have submitted the initial application, you’ll receive a more in-depth questionnaire about your landscape and why it should be recognized.

As conservation manager at SAWS, Dana gets to spend her days promoting beautiful San Antonio landscapes that need little to no water while benefiting Texas wildlife. When she’s not working with her talented co-workers whipping up new landscape programs, she’s cooking up delicious dinners made with fresh herbs from her low-water-use garden or planning the next trip with her husband, Rick -- preferably to some exotic place that requires a passport.
